Why Culture Is Key In Missions – 5 Things To Know Before You Go
Wikipedia says that the term "ugly American" is a pejorative term meaning "a term used to refer to perceptions of arrogant behavior by Americans abroad." OUCH  The real problem is not that the locals "perceive" arrogant behavior by Americans... It's that there really is actual arrogant behavior by my fellow countrymen. While this is merely either annoying or source of amusement for sophisticated Parisians or harried Londoners, it can cripple a sh...

Team Trip Coming in October!

Team Trip Coming in October!
I didn't intend to do a group trip, but it just happened. God works like that sometimes. Right now, we have 3, but there's a good possibility of a half dozen or so more, thanks to a new local ecumenical initiative I'm involved with called First Flight Missions. (More about that in a later post!) I haven't done a group trip since 2013 (my own kids don't count!) and I've never done a team that didn't do a camp, so I'm excited to see how God will map it all o...

Andros – Team Weekend!

Our team came from the US in two groups, because one of them works for American Airlines, and her family was flying stand-by on Friday. That was four people, and the other five came on Saturday. The Rays got to the airport in Nassau for the Western Air flight at 2:30, and were boarded on time at a little before 4:00... But the Delta-flying group was delayed by equipment issues in Atlanta. I'm here! Well, I'm here as in "in country." I'm in Nassau until after lunch today, hopefully to meet with the attorney or her assistants this morning and get the final info on what we need to do to get our nonprofit registered here. I find that, in places like Uganda and the Bahamas, face-to-face is the only way (literally!) to get anything done! So I'm calling them again promptly at 9am, and hoping to catch a cab for Chancellors Chambers soon afterwards....

Youth camp is a month from today!!

I just realized today is July 12. Our Andros Youth Camp in Mastic Point starts on August 12! I can't believe how fast time is flying. Here's where we are so far: Ryan and I met for lunch this week to get the final daily schedule figured out, as well as hone in on our theme of "Are You Enough?" I ordered 15 pounds of holi powder, which is what they use in the color run. I'm so excited to do this on the last day!           ...

2013 is shaping up to be big!

Time is really flying! How is it May already?? And I haven't posted here in two weeks... Sorry about that! (You can go to the Facebook page and Like it so that you get more frequent updates.) So here's what's going on: I found out today that I actually DO have an attorney working on the nonprofit in the Bahamas, I just didn't know it! Yes, "island time" has a lot in common with "beach time." It turns out, they've been calling the relavent government mi...
