Microbusinesses
Ten Eighteen has provided the funds for Ray of Hope to rent a house in the slums of Kampala. The house allows poor and refugee women a safe place to make handcrafts with their children in tow.  We are looking to provide outlets for their wares, which include handmade paper-bead jewelry, jewelry bags, and embroidered greeting cards.  100% of the proceeds go back to Ray of Hope.

In May, 2009 we took $300 to them, and in September, 2009 we were able to present them with another $300 for jewelry as well as $115 raised by the kindergarten class at Our Lady of Lourdes in Raleigh.  I purchased cards, jewelry bags, and more necklaces on the trip, providing another $350 in total.

October and November were very exciting, as we were able to send $1475 to Newezekana. After a successful fundraising effort at Holly Days in December, 2009, we raised an additional $900, with two more fundraising events planned for the month.

Additionally, Ten Eighteen committed to sponsoring an additional microbusiness - a lovely woman from The Congo, Miriam, is an excellent tailor, and, with a sponsorship, has been able to restart her dressmaking business near the main market.
